Liberty County Jail Overview

Liberty County Jail is operated by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. It is the only confirmed local detention facility in Liberty County. No separate city jail, regional jail, BOP institution, ICE detention center, or Georgia Department of Corrections state prison was confirmed inside Liberty County. The jail therefore carries the local facility functions: booking, release processing, bond questions, public roster listing, video visitation, mail, money deposits, property release, and records routing.

The facility is a county jail, not a state prison or federal prison. The public roster can show people arrested by Liberty County SO, Hinesville PD, Fort Stewart law-enforcement offices, state patrol, U.S. Marshals, or other agencies, but the custody point remains Liberty County Jail. A Fort Stewart or federal label on a roster row should be treated as a hold, court, or arresting-agency clue unless a federal agency later transfers the person into a separate federal system.

The county's SPLOST 4 jail page shows the broader jail complex context, including Pod 1, Pod 2, a work release building, and administrative offices.

Liberty County Jail Capacity

Capacity and population figures need a dated source because the current sheriff jail page does not publish a rated capacity. Georgia Department of Community Affairs reporting in August 2021 listed Liberty primary jail capacity as 300 with 201 inmates and 67 percent usage. Georgia Sheriffs' Association monthly jail reports have also used a 300-bed capacity for Liberty County. By contrast, county SPLOST history says SPLOST 1 funded a 120-bed jail facility, and later capital material discusses replacement planning at the same site.

The live roster inspected on June 4, 2026 showed Page 1 of 24 with 240 items on the current-inmates tab. That is a roster snapshot from that date, not an average daily population and not a capacity certification. The clean distinction is simple: 300 is a dated capacity figure from state jail reporting sources, 240 was the inspected public roster count, and the sheriff's current jail information page should be checked for any future published update.

Lookup Liberty County Jail Records

The correct lookup tool for Liberty County Jail is the current jail population roster linked from the LCSO jail inmates page. The roster has Current Inmates, 24 Hours Arrests, and Inmates by Arrest Date tabs. Use Current Inmates for present custody, 24 Hours Arrests for recent bookings and releases, and Inmates by Arrest Date when the booking date is known or the person may have been released.

  1. Open the roster from the LCSO jail inmates page or the InteropWeb current population page.
  2. Search by last name or first name, or browse the current roster with pagination when spelling is uncertain.
  3. Use the arrest-date tab when the booking date matters more than the current custody status.
  4. Read the inline record for status, arresting agency, days in jail, total bond, charges, court, and warrant fields.
  5. Call the jail or booking line when the record is urgent, missing, newly entered, or tied to a hold.

For a deeper field-by-field roster explanation, the Liberty County inmate records page covers the local roster fields, GDC fallback, BOP locator, ICE ODLS, VINELink, and sheriff app access. The key facility rule is that Liberty County Jail records cover county custody first. Sentenced state-prison custody belongs with GDC after transfer.

Liberty County Jail Property

Property release starts with the inmate. The inmate must fill out a property release form, and the claimant must show proper identification. Money is released by check and may be cashed at Heritage Bank in Hinesville with ID. Jail staff state that they will not contact inmates to request that they release money to anyone, so a claimant should not expect jail staff to initiate the process.

Clothing intake is narrow during the first 72 hours. New, unopened, solid white underwear items may be brought during that first window only. Allowed quantities are six pairs of socks, six T-shirts, and six undershorts. Women may receive three solid-white wireless bras instead of T-shirts. After 72 hours, these items must be purchased through store call, and inmates may have only six of each item and take them when they leave.

Liberty County Jail Booking

Booking is the intake step that must finish before release. LCSO's FAQ says an arrested person must complete booking procedures before release and that bond is established as part of booking. The roster then may show the public custody status, arrest date, arresting agency, days in jail, total bond, and charges. It should not be treated as a final court outcome.

Bond may be posted by cash bond, bonding company, or property bond when bond is available. A $20 jail fee is required before release for persons booked into jail. Holds can stop release even when local bond appears in the roster, including probation violations, federal holds, Fort Stewart holds, denied bond, or not-set bond. For property bonds, local rules require Liberty County property, qualifying ownership, sufficient value, no delinquent taxes, and approval by the Sheriff or designee.

Note: Confirm release eligibility by phone before paying bond or traveling, especially when a roster row shows a hold or denied bond.

Before Visiting Liberty County Jail

Practical jail trips should be planned around the task. Confirm current custody on the roster or by phone. Confirm bond status because total bond may not include every release barrier. Remember that in-person visitation is not available. Use HomeWAV for video and communication. Do not mail cash or money orders. Bring proper identification for property or money release. Complete commissary deposits by Monday evening when the funds are meant for the Tuesday store-call withdrawal.

Use the right office for the right record. The jail can address current custody, booking, release, front-office questions, money, mail, and property. LCSO open records handles sheriff booking records not online. The Clerk and court portals handle filed criminal cases and dispositions. GDC, BOP, and ICE handle custody after state, federal, or immigration transfer.
